I am a native Chicagoan with a BS in Mathematics from the University of Illinois and an MBA in Systems Management from De Paul University. In between,
Most of my business career has been in manufacturing systems. This manufacturing connection brought me to APICS, which was formerly the American Production and Inventory Control Society, but which is now known as the Association for Operations Management. I earned my original certification (CPIM) in 1985 and almost immediately began conduction certification review courses. I was serving a sixteen year exile at the time working in Stratford, CT. Through my APICS Chapter academic liaison, I began teaching Operations and Strategic Management courses at Western Connecticut State University.
While in Stratford, I worked for a Government Owned/Contractor Operated manufacturing plant that manufactured gas-turbine engines. It was in this environment I learned project management, using various mainframe applications and Lotus Symphony and 1-2-3.
I returned to the mid-west on Super Bowl Sunday, 1998. The local APICS Chapter immediately found certification courses for me to teach in conjunction with Iowa Wesleyan College.
I then spent some time in Houston and have recently relocated to Huntsville, Alabama, doing Project Management consulting. It’s a little warm, but the people are friendly.
I have two grown daughters, though my wife may disagree. One lives in Milwaukee, WI and the other lives in Madison, AL. Besides work, teaching, and keeping up-to-date on my daughters, I enjoy growing my own vegetables, especially tomatoes, green peppers, and okra.
