About Me

Drafted Mar 15 1971, did my basic at Fort Dix, AIT at Fort Gordon, Military Police 95B, I was assigned to the 13th MP Co in Bangkok but when I arrived in Thailand they kept me at Samae San in the 281st. At first I was bummed I was looking forward to living in a hotel in the big city, but once I got to know the Satahip area life was good. Got to see a lot of the area while on patrol, did a stint as desk clerk in the PMO with SP4 Shumate (desk Sgt.). Returned to the states in Oct. 72, went back to my old job at the local daily newspaper, The Bangor Daily News, all toll 44 years with the same company. Done a little of everything from printer to pressman to sports desk. Have great memories of Thailand and a few pictures that haven't been lost over the years, will try to post them on the site.

Thanks for the post. I was first assigned to 2nd platoon I think when I first got there. I am having a hard time remembering all the names now especially since I was there so long. I work the road for the first year or 2 then I was assigned to the PX, then I was the traffic investigator and I was the desk sargent until I left there in June 1976. I remember some things about the places we worked but a lot of the names are fuzzy now since people usually rotated after 13 months. Nit the tailor married a guy named Tom Jeffers who was there after you. I remember my first day on the road the guy I was with at the deep water port pulled the Jeep up to a flat area over looking the port and lit up a joint. I thought WELCOME TO THAILAND!!
